On 21 June, 2017, the Prime Minister of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay officially launched the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system. Speaking at the launch event, the Prime Minister categorically mentioned that the e-GP system cannot be optional and should be mandatory for procurement of Goods, Works and Services across the Government agencies starting January, 2018. Commending the Finance Ministry for spearheading the use of IT in the day-to-day affairs of the government, the Prime Minister said that e-GP will go a long way in enhancing efficiency and transparency in the government while also promoting the use of IT in the businesses sector.
The event was also attended by the Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Auditor General of the Royal Audit Authority, Government Secretaries, Resident Representative of World Bank, Country Director of Asian Development Bank and Senior Government officials.
Until now, the GPPMD has trained approximately 72 users in two batches including the Head of Procuring Agencies (HoPAs) of all the piloting Agencies such as MoWHS, MoE, MoF and Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. GPPMD is planning to train all the bidders/suppliers and consultants by next month.
